We are Sheila and Ignacio Lalana from Carlsbad, California. From September 30th to October 16th, 2016, we traveled to Italy on Rick Steves' Best of Italy in 17 Days Tour. We have created this website to share our incredible experience with our friends and family and hope that future travelers can learn from our successes and setbacks along the way.

After 31 years as an elementary school teacher, I was sad to give up the daily interaction with my students, but looked forward to beginning a new chapter of my life in retirement.  It had always been my dream to travel to Italy. I especially looked forward to finally being able to take a trip during the fall, instead of waiting for summer vacation when the heat in most places was unbearable.  Ignacio had also recently retired, so we finally both had the time to check this long-time goal off of our bucket list. The two of us were also just coming up on our 42nd wedding anniversary and we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate.
