Agriturismo - Poggio della Volara

Marco and Gaiva had a farm, e-i-e-i-o.

After visiting Assisi, we were on our way across Umbria to our agriturismo, Poggio della Volara, which is a working family farm and was our hotel out in the country. During our bus ride, we gazed out the window and felt like we were in a dream amid the peaceful Umbrian scenery filled with vineyards, olive groves, and colorful fields of sunflowers.

Our Arrival at Poggio della Volara

Our hosts, Marco and Gaiva, greeted us warmly as we arrived in the late afternoon. They eagerly shared their story; how they acquired the property, rebuilt the houses, and developed the farm. They explained to us the different processes they utilize to produce their wines and olive oil. We were then invited inside to sample their products with various tasty appetizers followed by a delicious, hearty meal in their cozy dining room. Our day came to a close as we all gathered to watch the breathtaking sunset over the Umbrian valley below.

DAY 14

The next morning, we left the agriturismo to visit Orvieto, another medieval hill town, where we spent most of the day.

Group Dinner

After returning to the agriturismo later in the afternoon, we had some time to rest and relax before joining the group for another large meal with several courses. To our delight, that evening turned out to be more of a celebration with our amazing hosts. Throughout our dinner, we were beautifully serenaded by a guitarist/singer and as the evening continued, the atmosphere became livelier while many of the couples began dancing to the beat of the music.

In our opinion, that evening was the most memorable time we shared with our group! Even Gaiva, our adorable hostess, came out of the kitchen, and with her towel swinging in the air, began dancing to the popular, well-known tune, “Con Te Partiro” (“Time to Say Goodbye”). It was a fantastic, carefree evening we all shared with great wine, delicious food, festive music, and wonderful company!
